Hyper-V Hosts VSS Error 8194

Post by JaxIsland7575 »

I am running 3 clustered Hyper-V hosts with VBR 8 update 2. During the guest VMs backups the event logs on the hosts are filled with these errors:

Code: Select all

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error querying for the IVssWriterCallback interface. hr = 0x80070005, Access is denied.
. This is often caused by incorrect security settings in either the writer or requestor process.

Operation:
   Gathering Writer Data

Context:
   Writer Class Id: {e8132975-6f93-4464-a53e-1050253ae220}
   Writer Name: System Writer
   Writer Instance ID: {c1e8de77-751a-45eb-8283-db928aed6a45}
Per Microsoft's Link I ran this:

Code: Select all

The article says to go back to the backup vendor if they are listed with no errors. Any idea on how I can resolve these errors?

Ryan, your best bet is to contact technical support with this. Quick forum search shows there could be different reasons causing this error, so logs review is required to define the actual cause in your case. Thanks.
