Hi,
I have both Hyper-V off-host storage snapshot and VMware storage snapshot backups configured.
I was wondering why on the VMware backup the VM snapshot is immediately removed after the storage snapshot is taken,
while on Hyper-V the VM checkpoint is left open after the storage snapshot is take.
It is only removed after the storage snapshot is removed.
Is there some technical reason the Hyper-V VM checkpoint is left open for the entire backup job duration?
It would be far more beneficial to VM performance to remove the checkpoint after the storage snapshot is taken like VMware does.

Re: Hyper-V off-host storage snapshot vs VMware storage snapshot
Hello,
Hyper-V off-host proxy and VMware backup from storage snapshots work completely different. Yes, there are many technical reasons.

By the way: congratulations that you have a working Hyper-V off-host proxy. I always recommend to avoid it, because it causes too many issues over time.
Best regards,
Hannes
