Hyper-V Vluster & Veeam setup - how?

Veeam Logoby spgsit5upport » Thu Dec 05, 2013 10:29 am

Two node Server 2012 R2 cluster with CSV on iSCSI SAN
Both hosts are converted to Core (with GUI removed)

What is the logical Veeam setup in that case?

Console running on VM with Offhost Backup Proxy running on what?

This - http://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/70/h ... proxy.html

"If you plan to perform offhost backup for a Hyper-V cluster with CSV, make sure you deploy an offhost backup proxy on a host that is not a part of a Hyper-V cluster. If the offhost backup proxy is deployed on a node of a Hyper-V cluster, the cluster will fail during backup and replication."

Does that mean that I would need yet ANOTHER server (none of the Hyper-V cluster members) with access to same LUN (NTFS is not cluster FS, so how would that work?)

Seb, yes, you need another server (outside the cluster) to act as offhost proxy. But there are no issues with that, since only read-only access is required by the proxy (no need to initialize LUN).

Can I use any of the hosts in Cluster to act as on-host backup proxy?

I surely have no other resources currently on hand to make into setup that also connects to separate iSCSI network

Or is that not supported any more?

And if I did indeed go with off-host proxy, how do I make RO for LUN access? In LUN management?

Onhost proxy is the source host itself (the one where VMs you're backing up reside). VM data is processed right by the source host during onhost backup, no need for any other servers in this case.

OK, in my case the backup data resides in remote NAS

So can I use clustered Core Hyper-V host as proxy for data move to remote NAS while console runs on full GUI VM ?

Yes, the source host will be used as proxy automatically.
