Hyper V - VM backups

Post by Kitkat »

Hi Folks,

I am protecting a VM on a Hyper V host, server 2012 R2. I understand Veeam will not necessarily take a VM snapshot (One i can see in Hyper V Manager). It may take a VSS checkpoint but how can i find and see this checkpoint?

The onhost proxy is the host, so I was thinking it will be on the HyperV host, but i do not see anything when running VSSadmin list shadows, despite the job running and telling me a checkpoint has been created.
Thanks.

Hi KK

The recovery snapshot should be visible in the UI while the backup is running.
After a VM backup has completed, the recovery snapshot gets deleted.

Use the UI or try PowerShell on the Hyper-V host to list active snapshots: Veeam requires snapshots from type "recovery".
get-vm | Get-VMSnapshot
