Hello,
Is an internet facing backup repository with port forwarding supported, or considered safe to do?
This would be for clients to store off-site backups.
Thanks

Re: Internet facing backup repository with port forwarding?
Hi Steve,
I would recommend having a look at Veeam Cloud Connect. In this case, backup repositories are not exposed and the communication goes through Cloud Gateways.
If you are already registered as VSCP, please apply for Veeam Cloud & Service Providers forum.
Thanks

Re: Internet facing backup repository with port forwarding?
Hello,
I am already looking at Cloud Connect at the moment.
But that hasn't answered my original question;
I ask because I have seen a backup repository with port forwarding on the internet, and wondering if that is actually a supported configuration and considered secure still?
Thanks

Re: Internet facing backup repository with port forwarding?
It is a general rule of thumb to avoid public exposure for protocols meant to be used in secure networks. Depending on Repository Type you are thinking to expose(Veeam has Windows, Linux, SMB, NFS, Object, Dedup Appliance repositories to offer) it might work, it might work partly(for some features), or might not work at all. Ideally, you want proper IP connectivity + DNS resolution for all your Veeam infrastructure components(including remote customers sites).
VPN is easy, trusted and secure. So is Veeam Cloud Connect.
/Thanks!
