I am planning to use veeam to back up some windows VMs.
I am wondering if it is possible to restore a backup to a different host server (assuming it had the same os (2012 R2)?
The reason being, for quick disaster recover, if the main host went down for example, could I just restore a VM to another server?
Are there any constraints? Does the hardware need to be identical?
Thanks.

Re: Is it supported/possible to restore backup to another ho
Absolutely, this is, basically, one of the most common scenarios. VMs can be restored to any other host as long as it has the same or higher OS version. So what you cannot do is to restore Hyper-V 2012 R2 VMs to Hyper-V 2008 R2 hosts, for example (however, even in this case you can restore VM virtual disks and attach them to the newly created VM).davids355 wrote:I am wondering if it is possible to restore a backup to a different host server (assuming it had the same os (2012 R2)?

Also, there is a standalone utility called extract.exe, using which you will be able to restore VMs without even installing Veeam backup console. Thanks.davids355 wrote:The reason being, for quick disaster recover, if the main host went down for example, could I just restore a VM to another server?
