Is VAEEM support SQL/Windows cluster on Hyper-v .

Hi ,

I wonder whether SQL cluster on hyper-v (2012 both) supported on VAEEM backup. if not, is it possible to back it and restore ? limitation ?!!!

I would like to know this type of information? any input would be appreciated.

SQL offers a number of clustering options. Please be more specific about your configuration.

Hi..

Yes we have SQL running on windows cluster 2012. Running on Hyper-v 2012 R2. The Hyper-V admin use VHDX instead of pass-through. Current version is 8.

Do you mean the cluster uses shared VHDX, as opposed to replicating the database between separate VHDX? Shared VHDX is supported starting in version 8, but will only back up in a crash-consistent state.

If I take a backup of this VM that is a clustered and running Hyper-V with Application-Aware Image Processing option selected. Is that mean data integrity cannot be preserved?

Machines residing on shared VHDX will be backed up in crash-consistent mode.

Such backup will be similar to the VM state after a system failure or power outage. Typically, SQL Server is able to successfully recover from crash-consistent backup, so having at least crash-consistent backup is better than having no backup at all.

So, I have concern of SQL data will VAEEM should be enough to backup SQL server in this case or should I use a complementary solution like Maintenance plan for Backup databases.

Veeam backup that is tested for recoverability with SureBackup is enough.

SureBackup skips shared vhdx disks, so it will not help to check such backups.

As far as I see from internal notes for this feature, the only way to currently do that is to do a restore manually.
