Migrate Hyper-V VM with RDM to new Hyper-Cluster
We are migrating a VM from Hyper-V on Server 2012R2 to a Server 2022 Hyper-V Cluster. The VM currently has a virtual OS disk and a physical RDM disk. Is the best method for migration a Veeam Agent backup and restore or is there a smarter option here?

Hi Martin
Create a backup with Veeam Agent and use Instant Recovery to restore the Agent backup as a VM.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=50
Thanks

Re: Migrate Hyper-V VM with RDM to new Hyper-Cluster
Hi Martin
You're welcome.
Do you need to keep the physical RDM? Or do you want to virtualize the RDM?
My suggested method will work if you want to virtualize the RDM.
If you want to keep using a physical RDM, then a restore with the recovery media could be required to the new physical RDM.

Same situation here, any new options to preserve backup chain, by VM name or something similar?

Hello Frufru
New hyper-V cluster means new IDs. Backup chains will be restarted with an active full backup.
Best,
Fabian
