NetApp iSCSI or SMB3 backup licenses needed?
What licenses are needed on the NetApp side to support off-host proxy backup of iSCSI CSV LUNs?
What about if the storage was SMB3?

The major requirement is to have VSS hardware provider supporting transportable copies installed. It'db be better to check with vendor representatives how to get it and what it requires. Thanks.

In case it isn't clear, there's no special integration for NetApp in Hyper-V environments, only in VMware environments.
Note also that changed block tracking on SMB3 storage is only supported for Windows file servers, not for third-party SMB3 servers.

So with NetApps and Hyper-V it can't do off-host proxy backups of the iSCSI LUNs?

That's not what I meant - I was expanding on Vladimir's statement that you need a hardware provider that supports transportable shadows, to clarify that this is a generic requirement, not something specific to NetApp storage.
I believe we have seen customers using the NetApp hardware provider (not sure if the storage was connected via iSCSI or FC), but since we don't maintain documentation for each storage vendor's hardware providers, it's best to ask the vendor about any requirements and limitations. However, I've heard it's part of SnapDrive.

can confirm, you need Snapdrive (and therefore Snapdrive licenses) as the VSS hardware provider.
afaik it doesn't matter which protocol you're using on the hyper-v hosts (fc,iscsi or smb3).
and you need the Flexclone license for restores.

Yes I can confirm you need Flexclone & SnapDrive licenses... you need SnapDrive for the VSS provider, and flexclone so it will actually work.
