Offhost Backup

Post by sayf_ifeo »

Hi,

I've acquired Veeam B&R 6.5 to backup our virtual machines hosted by 2 Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V nodes.

I've installed Veeam B&R on a physical server and i'm looking for an information.

Can the physical server where i've installed Veeam B&R solution be also an Offhost Backup Proxy ?

Regards - Sayf

Have you got Hardware VSS providers available for your shared storage ?

Also, please refer to the system requirements (available in the release notes document included with your download). Offhost proxy requires the Hyper‑V role enabled Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or Windows Server 2012. Thanks!

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the quick answer.

Yes i got the Dell EqualLogic Hardware VSS provider installed on it.

Hi Foggy ,

Thank you for your help too, I've read it before i install the solution.

I was just wondering if the backup server can also be an offhost backup proxy or if i've to separate the two roles

I think you can use the backup server as a proxy - though with your scenario , using on host backup with Hardware VSS should be just fine , just don't configure the proxy for too many concurrent jobs. Leave the backup server to do the repository duties.
