Post by max0664 »

Hi,

i have a Probleme with Veeam B&R on Hyper-v 2012 Cluster.
The Hyper-V Host has 40 GB memory free. But when i start the Veeam Backup Job the Host take 97% memory till the Diskbackup is done. Then the host give the 40GB Memory free. See the following image :

Max, just to make it more clear, have you encountered the same issue before the upgrade to version 6.5.144 or memory started to max out right after installing the latest build?

You might also want to review this thread discussing similar problem.

I don't know if the Probleme is after the Patch or the same issue was before this patch.

Anyway, I suggest opening a case with tech support so that they could review your job log files and investigate this behavior.

It sounds like you are suffering from a well-know bug in Windows Server 2012 when doing VSS snapshots of Cluster Shared Volumes. It bit us too, same exact behaviour. Here is a thread on TechNet where the problem is discussed in-depth.

Anyway, you should install the hotfix provided by Microsoft (Version 2), and see if it solves your problem. Be aware that disabling ODX might be required as well, as described in the hotfix page. After applying the hotfix and disabling ODX (for our Dell MD3260 SAN), we haven't had any incidents of either memory leaks or errors.

Microsoft warns however that not all the bugs in the CSV back-end are solved with the current hotfix, and that they will bring out further fixes.

Also, make sure you have the latest Veeam version installed (6.5 Patch 3), as it particularly addresses host memory usage during file copy operations according to the patch notes. Thanks!
