Prevent snapshot of excluded VM Disk
I currently have 2 VM's where I excluded the data disk from replication/backup. These vhdx's are over 5TB each which leaves less then 6GB free on the actual physical disks.
Roughly once a week or so one or both the VM's will be paused with Critical-Low Disk space because the data disk doesn't have enough free space for the snapshot file (AVHDX). Is there a way to prevent the excluded disk from having a snaphsot taken? When this occurs I have to turn off the VM so that the file can merge and then re-start the VM.

No, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do this, snapshot is created for the entire VM regardless of the exclusions. Anyway, I don't think that having such a little free space on a datastore is recommended.

Thanks, I wasn't able to find much myself either in that regards.
I'll see if I can't shrink the VHD's about 15-20GB.

If those disks are stored on a CSV volume, you can try to make them shared, they will not be included in a backup checkpoint.

These data disks aren't on the shared storage server, but are actually each on the Hyper-V hosts. Will sharing the folder the vhd is on and adding the disk via UNC vs drive letter accomplish the same thing?
Edit:
I shrunk both vhdx's by 20GB leaving approx. 23GB free on each physical disk. Will keep an eye on it to see if that helps.

No, this will not allow to achieve the same thing.
