RDP proxy appliance for Hyper-V Server

Post by UniSys »

Hello Veeam experts,

Old Veeam blog article mentions a nice way to access Remote Desktop in Free Hyper-V Server, see link below.

https://www.veeam.com/blog/rdp-rsat-fre ... linux.html

Veeam author describes quite an elegant approach: RDP proxy appliance for Hyper-V Server. I can download the appliance, but download link for configuration guide is dead. Where can I find that configuration guide?

I undersatnd that the article is several years old and this approach is probably outdated already. So I wonder if Veeam recommends some other approach now?

I also interested to know what the other people use when they need to access their Virtual Machines on Free Hyper-V Server.

Thank you in advance!

I currently use two different methods, depending on if I need to interact with the console or make some changes to the VM.

To use just the console, download Microsoft Remote Desktop Manager: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=44989. Besides enabling you to connect to regular RDP sessions, it can be used to connect to Hyper-V VMs on a host over the network. See https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/virtua ... or-rdcman/ for the announcement.

To use the console and manage the VM, download or open the RSAT tools (Hyper-V Manager) on another computer. Since Windows 10 and Server 2016, it has the ability to connect to a workgroup Hyper-V server (using alternate credentials when connecting to the host).

Both of these methods require Windows as the operating system and the proxy appliance would allow you to use Linux, Android or iOS devices to connect to your VM console. You should use the method that suits your use!
