Renaming Hyper-v hosts names and renaming a Hyper-v cluster name --> what to do after this in Veeam B&R 11.0 version

Post by sanchezz »

Hi. I have a question. I will want to change the hostnames from the hyper-v cluster and I will want to rename the hyper-v cluster. What steps must be taken in VEEAM Backup & Replication 11.0 to ensure VM backup and replication? Will I have to reconfigure all created jobs? Is it enough to rescan the cluster in Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam will update the cluster name and HYPERV hostnames? Or will I need to remove and re-add all hosts and a cluster in Veeam Backup & Replication 11.0 and recreate all jobs and replicas? I created a support Case in Veeam support but to this day I have not received any reply ( Case #05610148) .

Hi Slawomir

Thanks for the case number.
With your support level and chosen severity level, your are still in the expected response period from our support.

May I ask, how is the Cluster added to Veeam? IP or FQDN? There is a procedure to change the registered hostname/IP in Veeam on PowerShell.
https://www.veeam.com/kb1905

Make sure to have a configuration backup before you use that command.

Thanks

Hi :)

Yes, the Cluster is added to Veeam by FQDN. Not by the IP ( when I click the "Inventory" button in Veeam B&R I see: Virtual Infrastructure --> Microsoft Hyper-v --> Hyper-V Clusters--> and here I see full name of our Hyper-V Cluster.)

In the coming days, we will want to rename the Hyper-v cluster and we will rename the 4 Hyper-v hosts that are part of the Hyper-v cluster. I still have a question about the license. After changing the hostnames, will Veeam also update the server names in the license tab , where I can see servers that are using Veeam B&R application ? Or will I have to select each of the servers and click on the "Revoke" button and only then will the server name be updated?

I have a question. Can I also change the Hyper-v Cluster name in Veeam by doing what is mentioned on the website: https://www.veeam.com/kb1905 ?

I`m asking, because here is written: "Change Managed Server Name/FQDN/IP in Veeam Backup & Replication" , and my first step is to change the Hyper-v Cluster name. After changing the Cluster Name, my second step is changing the Hyper-v host names.....

Thank you.

I believe, you don't have to revoke the license. I suggest you run a quick backup right after changing the hostname.

Yes, the PowerShell commands will also work for the cluster. After you changed the FQDN of the first Hyper-V, I suggest todo a rescan of the Hyper-V Cluster in Veeam. This will allow you to see if Veeam recognizes the new Hyper-V name in Managed Servers and in the license list.

Thanks
