Replication Job from a hyper-v 2022 to a hyper-v 2012 R2

Hello,

We wanted to make replicas of virtual machines from a hyper-v 2022 to a hyper-v 2012 r2, to take advantage of the old server to have replicas of the virtual machines.

Veeam Gives incompatible hosts error. The following hosts are incompatible with the target host.

Is there a way to do it or should we directly upgrade to Windows server 2022 or could we put a Windows Server 2016?

Hi Dani

Veeam cannot replicate VMs from 2022 to any older Hyper-V version. The VM configuration version of the 2022er VMs will be too high for the old HyperV hosts. The Target Host for a replica job must have the same or a higher version as the Source Host.

You have to upgrade your old hosts to HyperV 2022.

i've to dig up this thread...
something interessting to add here...

i've permanent failovered Server 2012R2 VMs (vm config v8) to hyperV 2022....
after this, the VMs are still vm version 8 on the 2022 hyperv...

newly created VMs on HV2022 are VM Version 10...

now i would understand that i can't replicate vm-version10 vms to 2012r2... but the VMs that are still vm config 8 should work!!?!

We added this capability in V12. In V12 you can replicate and restore VMs with compatible hardware versions to older HyperV versions.

Compatibility checker enhancements — You can now restore and replicate VMs to Hyper-V hosts of lower versions compared to the original host as long as the VM hardware version is supported by the target host
