It is impossible to take checkpoint of such disk, but we store replica restore points as checkpoints.

Over a year (and full version & couple of revisions of Veeam) later still is a no go zone.

Windows Server 2016 will include a new disk format for shared disks and will add support for host-based backups as well as using Hyper-V Replica. https://blog.workinghardinit.work/2015/ ... rver-2016/
VMWare can only do shared disks by mapping the VMs to physical iSCSI or FC luns, so VMware is even less baked than Microsoft's solution.
