Restore AD components from non-domain joined server?

Post by AlexLeadingEdge »

Hi guys,

We have a Server 2012 machine with Veeam B&R 10a that is not Domain Joined. If we want to restore AD components or emails from Exchange. When I try to do this Veeam B&R 10a asks for this:

How do we go about doing this? Can someone point me to a KB article I can follow?

Hi Alex

It looks like you are starting the Explorer for AD directly from the windows start menu and not from inside the vbr console. Is that correct?

Thirst, make sure, that your backup jobs are using AAP. If they are using AAP, you can simply right click on the vm an start a application item level restore.

Enable the option „Application Aware processing“

If you have done that, you can use this guides to start the Application Item Level restore for Exchange and AD from inside the console

I was opening it from the Restore menu item in the Home section thinking it would just figure it out as it picked up the two domain controllers, but then it started asking for the DIT file location and the logs folder location. When I clicked "Browse..." it then took me to the My Documents folder on the backup server, which confused me a little.

It seems it was just asking me for confirmation that the location it found was the one I wanted, which I think it is.

I will explore more when I have some free time, but I think that the second link was exactly what I wanted.

Thank you! :)
