Restore of guest-files not possible

Post by kl_rul »

Hello,

I've set up a Veeam Backup & Replication (free) on a backupserver. This backupserver connects to an hyper-v server and VeeamZips the vms located there.
All working - even the use of the tapedrive of the hyper-v-server, to which all of the vbks are streamed to, after a complete VeeamZip.

Now I try to restore some guestfiles from the vbk.
I select the vm to restore.
I click on "restore" and choose "Guest Files (Microsoft Windows)"
then: Please Wait - importing Backup"
and then: "Unsupportet type 'Microsoft Windows Server' of the Hyper-V host 'SERVERNAME'."

What is the problem with this?

Greets

Hi André,

Please can you share information about the OS version on the source VM and version of the Hyper-V server. Thanks!

If you added Hyper-V server to the backup infrastructure as host and as windows server in the VBR console, then you should leave it only as Hyper-V host, since we have a known bug that causes the issue you are facing.
Otherwise, I'd recommend you to contact our support team for further investigations. Thanks!

hmmm.. thanks for the advice. But i'm not able to delete the Windows Server - because it's in use by the tape infrastructure :(

I am able to help myself, if i need to restore guest files. I do this now via vhd-extraction and inspect the file with 7-zip. But that's not the best solution.

OK - tried that. But opening a support case is only possible with a supportid. In free-mode, there is no such a supportid visible. I could try to enable supportcontract with another license, read the support id and delete the license from registry. But I dont know, if it is a "legal" way?

edit: read the forum guidelines. Veeam is not interested in solving problems from free-users nor will they read the forum here. Even if customer has some other valid licenses.
Please delete my post - because it wont fit the form guidelines..

thank you :)

Owners of free license are eligible for support. The support ticket can be opened via phone. Thanks.
