Restore Windows Server 2022 VM onto Windows Server 2019
I have an existing set of primary servers that are running Windows Server 2019. We are purchasing new servers with Windows Server 2022. I'd like to be able to keep my existing 2019 servers for disaster recovery. Can I restore a VM that was backed up from Windows Server 2022, onto a Windows Server 2019 host?

This depends on the configuration versions of your VMs, and whether Server 2019 support them.

Thank you for the response. I understand the concern regarding VM configuration version.
My question was whether Veeam itself would prevent it, regardless of the configuration version. From what you are saying, it sounds like Veeam does not prevent it.

This check was implemented in V12 > What's new V12 - Page 12

Best,Compatibility checker enhancements — You can now restore and replicate VMs to
Hyper-V hosts of lower versions compared to the original host as long as the VM hardware
version is supported by the target host

Right. And before V12, we would just block the restore completely, if we detected that the target host has a lower version.
