Why do you have to install the VMM Console on the backup server to use SCVMM?
I connect to the VMM server directly when adding it to the inventory
The only established connection between the backup server and SCVMM is on port 8100 (VMM service)
There are some other services listening but generally do nothing
Does Veeam use the local console/ services to get information and manage the hosts?

Re: Role of VMM Console on backup server for SCVMM
Hello,
which problem do you try to solve by getting the answer?
I mean, it's a documented system requirement like other software components. And it's used for communication with SCVMM.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Role of VMM Console on backup server for SCVMM
Hi Hannes,
Thanks for your reply.
We have an issue where Veeam is loosing connection to SCVMM every couple of days.
An error shows up saying that the remote host killed the connection.
The backup server and SCVMM are on the same LAN there is no firewall in between.
All Windows Firewall rules are set up etc.
When the issue occurs, the only fix we have is to reboot the SCVMM server, Veeam then connects again no issues for a few days.
I cant find any errors for SCVMM on the SCVMM server, the ticket was sent to Microsoft they said they can not find anything.
So what I need to understand is how Veeam communicates with SCVMM and what the role of the VMM console on the backup server is.
Kind regards,
Darren
