SCVMM needs re-installing - will it affect Veeam jobs?

Post by Andrew.L »

I have a client using Veeam v7, leveraging a SCVMM server which is currently very unhappy, for which SCVMM needs re-installing.
The VM is going to keep the same name/IP, but simply have a re-install of SCVMM.

Will the existing Veeam Hyper-V jobs be affected, specifically the VMs that are in the source list? (will the jobs need their VMs re-populated?).
And furthermore, will the backup chains be affected for the next backup after the SCVMM is re-installed?

Many thanks in advance!

Andrew, in case of in-place SCVMM upgrade, nothing will be affected. However if you're going to re-register hosts and VMs in the newly installed SCVMM instance, they will change their IDs and will be treated by Veeam B&R as completely new VMs. This will require re-adding VMs into jobs and mapping the jobs to existing backup files, resulting in full backup during the next job run.
