Set maximum backup restore point

Post by Eric Loh »

Hi All,

Good day,

Can anyone teach me how to set the maximum backup restore point on Veeam? For example, let's say I set a backup task runs every day and it will automatically overwrites the restore point that is older than 7 days? Is this possible?? I am using the Veeam Backup & Replication community edition.

What do you mean the forward incremental? where is it set?
I also want to do a full backup every month. This is my current settings is the restore retention policy 7 days, backup mode is incremental and create active full backup monthly on First Monday. Under maintenance, remove deleted items data after 7 days.

If you don't configure any kind of full backup in your backup job (Storage->Advanced Settings), then your jobs runs in forever forward incremental mode. This way only as much restore points are kept as you configure in the retention settings; one fullbackup + X incrementals. After your retention is reached, the oldest incremental will be merged into the fullbackup.

If you enable monthly active full backups, this won't work. You would at a minimum have 30 days of restore points + 7.
