Two SANs One Off-Host Proxy
Hi All,
Is it possible to use one Off-Host proxy for two SANs?
I am currently doing testing with a new Cluster which has two iscsi SANs - one IBM v3700 and one Lenovo s3200. The hardware VSS providers for each SAN are installed and working ok when a VM is backed up off each SAN separately but if we try to backup of both SANs at the same time then the jobs will fail with "failed to create VSS snapshot".
Do we need one off-host proxy per SAN?
Thanks,
Cullan

Re: Two SANs One Off-Host Proxy
Hi Cullan, are we talking about VM that has its disks on both SANs? The second proxy wouldn't help in this case, the issue is that both providers should be used to create snapshot for this VM (no matter whether they are installed on a single or separate proxies), which are not necessarily compatible.

Re: Two SANs One Off-Host Proxy
Hi Foggy,
No we currently have one test VM on the v3700 and a separate VM on the s3200. They backup fine one at a time using the hardware VSS providers unless you try to snapshot both VMs at the same time. It's like the proxy can only use one Hardware VSS snapshot provider at a time.
Have you seen this before?

I'd suggest to ask support to review your setup then.

Just confirming this does work, in case anyone else has the same question.

Thanks for getting back with this. I'd appreciate you sharing the reason for it didn't work before.

Re: Two SANs One Off-Host Proxy
Sure, one of our iSCSI initiators on one of our cluster nodes was configured with the wrong name. This just happened to be the node we had test VMs on for our initial testing.
