Uptime in Hyper-V Manager
I backup nightly my VMs (server 2008r2, windows 8.1, and 2012R2 systems) that reside on a single Hyper-V 2012R2 host. When the backup runs, the Uptime on the systems with the Hyper-V Manager snap-in from the RSAT tools resets the uptime to when the backup last ran.
For example, even though the Hyper-V host and VMs have not been rebooted since their last windows updates a couple of weeks ago, the uptime on the VMs in Hyper-V Manager show an uptime of 20 hours. Why is this? Shouldn't the uptime display as 14 days?

How is your backup job configured? See this on-line web page for more info > Backup of VMs on Local Storage and CSV

There's also dedicated KB article for that case.

[MERGED] Reset of the Online-Counter in Hyper-V
Hy together,
we run Veeam B&R in an Hyper-V environment.
Every time we run a backup job, the online counter in the HV-console is reseted and runs from 0:00 for the VM.
Only one VM does not show this behavior.
How can I prevent this?
Thanks for your help.
Best regards
André

Re: Uptime in Hyper-V Manager
I see all machines are processed in online mode. Nowhere in the eventlog of the guests I find an hint, that the machine is stopped. I think, there is no saved statebackup. But the system uptime counter is starting from 0:00 after the backup.
One host is a hyper-v 2012 R2 and the guests are 2008 R2, 2012 and 2012 R2. Only the 2012 R2 has an uptime counter, which is not reseted.
On an another hosts, same configuration, all guests have reseted uptime counter, even the 2012 R2 guest.
It would be very nice, if I could change this behavior.
Thanks for your help at this point....

Re: Uptime in Hyper-V Manager
Any chance it was backed up crash-consistent? According to QC, VM uptime has been reset during their recent tests not only when backup was performed using saved state, but during online backup as well. Since this looks more like a Hyper-V issue, I recommend contacting MS with this.adiekmann wrote:Only the 2012 R2 has an uptime counter, which is not reseted.
