Working on a possible Hyper-V re-design and looking at backup options moving from pass-through to fixed VHD since all of our equipment is production.
Curious about the compression ability of Hyper-V fixed and dynamic VHD's, what is the lab'd rate of compression? Additionally, since the VHD is seen as a file, does it backup free space inside the fixed VHD? I would say no, even DPM 2010 isn't fixed disk aware. From a block level the space is used....Maybe I answered my own question. How about an expert speak up?

Re: Veeam Compression on 2008 R2 Hyper-V Fixed Dynamic VHD D
Depends on the contents of the disk, of course. Just name your desired ratio, and I will create the disk that will compress accordingly
