Veeam Configuration Backup

Post by leetansey »

Dear Community,

I have a VBR server running daily backup, backup copy and replication jobs for a small environment of 7 VMs that has been in place without any changes for some time. What would be the recommended schedule for backing up the configuration database in this scenario? Are there things in the backup that are updated daily that would help in the event of needing to restore the database config, or if the environment is static then can this be performed less frequently, like weekly for example?

Many thanks,

Hello,

The configuration database state is updated with every created backup and replica in order to register a new restore point or when you add a new component to backup infrastructure or when you change settings of an existing component or job, even every job session has a corresponding record in the configuration database so that you can easily browse job history and generate reports.

If you run backups/replications/backup copies every day - I strongly recommend to perform the configuration backup daily as well in order to reduce the risk of data loss and minimize the administrative overhead in case of disaster.

Thanks!
