VEEAM replication CSV redirected access mode or not?

Post by PeterStam »

Hello Everyone,

Windows 2008R2 Cluster environment with VM's on CSV's.

When VEEAM performs a replication task do the CSV's go into redirected access mode ?
When VEEAM performs a backup task do the CSV's go into redirected access mode ?
Or is this the same functionality....

Regards,
Peter

Peter, the CSV is switched to the redirected access mode whenever volume snapshot is initiated, so this is similar for backup and replication operations. However, if hardware VSS provider is used, it stays in redirected mode only while the snapshot is taken and not until the backup completes, as it is with software providers.

Later Hyper-V versions (2012/R2) do not require CSV ownership change during backup and there is no need for redirected I/O, even with software VSS provider.
