Veeam vmware to hyper v possible?
Hello,
I will soon be switching from vmware to hyper v. Can I still use the Veeam product or do I have to buy something new e.g. licenses? If not can I just add the new Hyper V VM's to the existing backup jobs?
Best regards

Hi,
This is one of the advantages of using Veeam Universal License: 1 workload consumes 1 Instance according to the Licensing policy.
For migration from VMware to HyperV you can use Instant VM Recovery and follow the steps:
1) Perform migration via Instant Recovery
2) Finalize the IR session by migrating the VM to the production datastore
3) Create a new backup job for the migrated VM and make a full backup
Please, pay attention It's not possible to combine ESXi hosts and Hyper-V in the same backup job.
Thanks!

This does not really match any known license type. Could you share a content of the license file instead (remove all sensitive data including name, email address, SupportID and LicenseID).

This is a legacy Socket-based license. Not a Veeam Universal License mentioned by Marina, but nevertheless still compatible with both VMware and Hyper-V. So feel free to use it for protecting VMs on either hypervisor.

Re: Veeam vmware to hyper v possible?
I am about to undertake a migration from vSphere ESXi v7 over to Hyper-V and readily confess I know nothing about Hyper-V yet.
Lots of people are recommending "use Veeam Instant Recovery" and that seems like a great idea to me.
I have a question about the specifics of:
* whether NIC IP addresses are preserved in the specific case where my VMs:
-- use the VMXNET3 network driver
-- in cases where I have VMs with dual-NIC configuration (e.g. one NIC in LAN, another in DMZ)
I've seen advice saying:
* it is recommended to uninstall VMware Tools first (wouldn't I lose my NICs?)
* it is preferable to NOT uninstall VMware Tools until after the instant recovery is completed
I'm going to do a bunch of testing of course, but am hoping that others who have preceded me have the answer specifically covering use of VMXNET3 drivers.
