VM backup size question

Post by twilliams001 »

New to Veaam

I installed Veeam Backup & Replication on the Hyper-V host server. Set up a test backup using one of the VMs on the host server. Set up a NAS repo for backup storage. Initiated the backup job and it finished indicating success.

Details - DATA

Processed: 18.3 GB (100%)
Read: 14.9 GB
Transferred: 8.6 GB (1.7x)

Under Action
VM size: 200.00 GB (18.3 GB used)

Question: (very new to VMs) The numbers do not seem to correlate. How can a VM with size 200 GB - of which 18.3 GB is used - correspond to only 8.6 GB saved to the repo?

Thanks

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

Yes, looks normal. Data reduction... swapfiles / hibernate files are ignored plus 1.7x data reduction.

Just try out a restore ;-)

Best regards,
Hannes
