Volume discovery on This server fails

Hello,

I start to implement Veeam 7 in our infra, Veeam 7 r2a is installed on a server for backup and replication with off-host mode.
No firewall and no antivirus


I have several errors in Windows event log and each time that discover "volumes and disk on "This Server"" running :


Veeam error :

Veeam error in log :

Code: Select all

[27.01.2014 14:26:32] <01> Error    Server 'This server' does not exists or access denied. \nCheck firewall settings. (System.InvalidOperationException)"

Windows Event :

Code: Select all

Event ID : 10009
Source : DistributedCOM
DCOM n’a pas pu communiquer avec l’ordinateur This server en utilisant les protocoles configurés.

I reinstall Veeam, on a fresh install without configuration, no errors. Volumes Discover process working on "this server".

When I add hyper-v hosts, repository, and backup proxy, Volumes Discover process doesn't work on "This server" with errors.


After many tests I noticed that error occurs only if "This server" is a backup proxy


Does anyone know how to fix the issue ?

Jeremy, could you please describe your setup in more detail? What kind of hosts/servers do you have, how do you add them into Veeam B&R console, etc?..

Hi foggy,

On same site, same network :

2 Hosts 2008 Hyper-V R2
1 2008 Server R2 with Hyper-v role enable, it's my Veeam 7 server. This server will provide hyper-v backup on local storage with off-host mode, and replication to another site. Also, it's my only backup proxy.

All connect to share store MD3000 iscsi

DR site, access by wan :
1 Host 2008 Hyper-V R2 with local stora for replica role.

To add hosts, repository, off host backup proxy, I use Veeam console, Right click, add server, I use FQDN of server. In fact I just follow the user guide step.

I tried to put or not the veeam server's FQDN instead use "this server" for backup proxy and repository, but no effect.

Since everything looks right, let's wait for what support could come up with after reviewing the log files.

Correct, it is in the list of fixes (thanks for confirming it does work for you):

• Volume rescan fails with the "Server 'This server' does not exists or access denied. Host discovery failed. The RPC server is unavailable" error when the product is installed on the Hyper-V host.
