Inconsistent Memory Usage in Summary Tab
ESXi 4.1 running 2 VMs.
Veeam Monitor gives me the following numbers for memory usage in the summary tab:
Host: 88%
Resources: 99%
VM1: 6%
VM2: 4%
I'm a bit puzzled, why host and resources gives me such a high values, while each VM uses only little memory. Seems these values describe different things ?!?

Re: Inconsistent Memory Usage in Summary Tab
Hello Pete,
Summary tabs are showing average usage for the last 5 minutes, did you have any spikes of consumed memory by any chance? Also could you please tell me what Memory usage does vSphere Client show you for the same host?
Thanks.

Re: Inconsistent Memory Usage in Summary Tab
Thanks Vitaly.
No spikes.
vSphere Client shows similar values except the values for Resources, which I don't have in vSphere Client.
Initially I've expected, that host memory usage would be roughly the sum of VM memory usage plus hypervisor memory usage. But following the counter description in Veeam Monitor, VM memory usage is based on active memory, while host memory usage is based on consumed memory. Thus theses values are not directly related, right? So it seems I've misinterpreted the values.
I don't know, how the values for Resources are calculated. The counter description doesn't target Resources at all.
Do you have a white-paper, that explains these values in detail?
Pete

Re: Inconsistent Memory Usage in Summary Tab
Yes, Resources is not visible in the infrastructure tree within the vSphere Client. As to all object Summary tabs then they are based on memory consumed value and not on memory active number.
I would suggest looking at our User Guide, as it contains all counters descriptions and tabs explanations, should help.

You need to navigate to our website, open products homepage (resources) and then choose User Guide.
