Lost ESX Host Connection State

Post by markfellows »

Every morning at approximately 3am the monitoring server (Windows 2003 virtual server) is alerting us to an ESX host connection state problem. The ESX host is fine and is available to all servers, it can even be pinged from the monitoring server.

The event logs contain the following event for the same time :

The Veeam Data Collector Service service was successfully sent a stop control.

There is a corresponding start control for this event.

Rebooting the monitoring server resolves the issue.

Hello Mark,

Could you please tell me what version of Veeam Monitor are you using to monitor your virtual environment? I assume we are talking about version 4.5, which has a built-in scheduler to restart Data Collector Service daily, but with the release of v5 you will no longer have this scheduler, meaning that no more false alerts will be recieved. We plan to make Veeam Monitor 5 generally available next week. Hope this helps!

Vitaliy,

Yes we're using 4.5.0.189, if this issue is resolved in version 5 I'll wait for that. Does this mean Backup & Replication v5 (SureBackup) will be available next week too?

Vitaliy,

I'm getting this issue even after a reboot now, any ideas on a possible short term solution?

Mark.

. . . Not sure if it makes a difference but I'm running Backup & Replication on the same VM. Very small infrastructure, 1 host, 6 VMs (eventually rising to only 2 hosts 12 VMs).

Mark, If you experience ESX host connection losses during the day, then it might be worth looking at the log files as well... sounds like there is a connectivity issue indeed.

Vitaliy, as suspected it was a time syncing issue.
