Pulling VC data...not just its own?

Post by AlexanderDonov »

Hello, I've recently installed Veeam Monitor (after some finagling with the SQL DB) and have a question. I am monitoring my virtual center server only. I would like to have Veeam Monitor graphically display the results for the last 30 days....however, it is only displaying the last "past hour". Does Veeam Monitor need to capture it's OWN data to display this or can it pull the data from the VC server?

Thanks!

kingofbytes,

Monitor does need to collect the data before it can display historical information. It does not read the historical data stored in Virtual Center. So, to get a historical report showing last 30 days you will need to have Monitor running for 30 days.

There is a beta of Monitor 3.0 coming soon...

Thank you very much for the quick response Doug. Does the new 3.0 have the ability to query from the VC database?

Yes, the 3.0 release does that. We expect to release public beta next week, so you will be able to check this our yourself soon, if interested.

Kingofbytes,

Monitor uses the VI API to gather performance data and it does not query the VI Database for past performance data. Version 3.0 will also collect events, and for these it will pull past events from the VI database.

I have just double checked on this with the dev team. When you connect to the Virtual Center for the first time, Veeam Monitor 3.0 fetches all historical data for the past year from it, giving you ability to see/browse/analyze this data immediately.
