real IO bottlenecks

Post by ivordillen »

I recently got an issue with a heavily loaded SQL server where the KAVG/cmd and the GAVG/cmd got to high what means my storage box couldn't follow, I got latency,...

I was a little bit dissapointed that I didn't get an error in the monitor because that are the real benefits for system admins imo

Hi Ivor,

Could you please tell what type of storage do you have? How is it connected to your host? Did you see high latency on your storage disk?

Thanks!

Vitaliy

I have a HP P6000 connected via FC. We have a few times a day +3000 IOPS and then the latency of that disk goes to 30-40 for the duration 5-15min.

Thanks for clarifications. Currently we do not collect VMkernel read/write latency metrics, but I believe it shouldn't be a problem to add these counters in our next updates.

I think that is a munst because at this level you are a real asset. At this level you find the real problems relating to queu depth or IO size,... A lot of info to put some intelligence!
