Re: Application-Aware Backup
Hi Ramalingam
Please check respectful page of Veeam Backup for AHV User Guide here.
Long story short, if Nutanix App-Consistent snapshot criteria is met, backup by default will be application-consistent. Otherwise, it will be crash-consistent.
As another option you are free to use Veeam Agents for in-guest application-consistent backup.
Thanks!

Hi Egor Yakovlev,
Thanks for your response.
Incase of MS SQL Server VM with application consistent backup, how transactional logs backup will taken care?

Re: Application-Aware Backup
Since Nutanix is going to take care of guest processing, Veeam will have no interaction with Guest OS - as a result, no SQL Logs Backup is performed by us.

Re: Application-Aware Backup
You need to backup your MS SQL Server with Veeam Agent. This is the only way for veeam to truncate log files. Same for Exchange Server.Ramalingam N wrote: ↑Sep 09, 2020 8:29 am Hi Egor Yakovlev,

License is needed only once for processing the same vm with different backup mode (NTX Backup and Veeam Agent Backup)

[MERGED] AVH cluster + oracle on windows VM
Does this work the application integration vss also work for AHV, like on vmware?
Or do we need to install an agent?
Or do we need to install an agent?

Re: Application-Aware Backup
The problem for the vss integration the veeam documentation pointS to the Nutanix documentation, but for oracle on windows vss is not mentioned as supported.
But in the veeam restore documentation from AVH I can see an oracle explorer

Re: Application-Aware Backup
Based on the reply from @Egor Yakovlev you need to use Veeam Agent for Windows for VSS consistency. If you don't have it, then you should be looking at AHV documentation for availabvle VSS options as our documentation points out. Hope it helps!

Re: Application-Aware Backup
I understand that Veeam Backup for AHV is forcing us to use application consistent backup.
I receive constantly error alerts from PE, saying "VSS snapshot is not supported for the VM 'SRVMOBAPP', because NGT VSS capability is not enabled for VM."
Is there a way to take crash-consistent backup without PE alerting us every time that it was unable to take VSS Snapshot?
Crash consistent backup is enough for me. I do not need application consistent backup.
PS : I am using Leap (synchronous replication between 2 sites)

Re: Application-Aware Backup
Hi
Thanks
Fabian
Can you disable the alarm on Nutanix side? I understand the alarm is generated by the Nutanix PE and not Veeam.take crash-consistent backup without PE alerting us
Thanks
Fabian

Re: Application-Aware Backup
I guess there have been alot of development going lately on both on Nutanix AHV and Veeam side. I'm not entirely sure how to configure a backup job in VBR 12.3 protecting Windows and Linux VM's in Nuntanix AHV 6.1 after reading:
https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documen ... -wc-r.html
where it says:
'Do not take Nutanix enabled application-consistent snapshots while using any third-party backup provider enabled VSS snapshots (for example, Veeam).'
Does the NGT setting 'Volume Snapshot Service (VSS)' on the Nutanix VM side have anything to do with how Application Aware backup works on a Veeam backup job?
Should it be considered to disable 'Application Aware' backup for VM's that don't run databases for the sake of less impact on the VM?
Regards,
Jóhannes

Re: Application-Aware Backup
@johannesk yes there certainly has been rapid evolution of capabilities for application-aware processing recently with our v7.0 release (see https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbahv ... html?ver=7. Note that Veeam application-aware processing is in no way dependent on Nutanix Guest Tools VSS processing and NGT quiescence is disabled if Veeam app-aware is enabled in a backup job. Yes for workloads that don't require app-aware processing it is less overhead if they're excluded.
