Question: V2V restore of a Nutanix-VM to VMware ...

Post by Didi7 »

Hello everybody,

one question ...

Is the restore of a Nutanix-VM (backup done through a Proxy Appliance within a Nutanix-cluster) to a VMware host only possible through Instant Recovery? I see no standard restore to a VMware vSphere Host choices?

Thanks for any comment.

Regards,
Didi7

Hello,

Currently, Instant Recovery is the only option to restore VMs from Nutanix AHV backups to VMware vSphere environment.
We are actively working on enhancing this capability, so stay tuned for upcoming releases of VB for Nutanix.

But you can try following workaround:
- Export content as virtual disks > VMDK.
- Transfer VMDK disks into the datastore.
- Create new VM from VMDK disks.

Why is there a need to restore another than Instant Recovery?

Allright! Is this really an upcoming enhancement within Veeam Backup for Nutanix? In this case, it would mean that only upcoming backups of Nutanix VMs can be restored without using Instant Recovery!

I already did this (and VHD-export as well as a test) but that's far too laborious, as you would need to upload the VMDKs to the datastore on top.

We would just like to restore the VM instead of using Instant Recovery, which has a greater impact on the VBR-server as well, at least until the VM is fully restored to the target datastore.
