VAN includes agent licenses. You don't mention Linux vs. Windows, but you likely want to use the agent licenses for those specific VMs.
If you are trying to do RMAN backups, that is another set of discussions, but likely still ends up with use the agents with whatever scripts you use to produce the flat files.

Any chance that this and MSSQL application level support are in the pipeline for a future release? This feature is really important to a lot of us and not having to mix and match backing up with agents would be a huge plus.

As the release notes mention, we only use NTNX's guest processing today. If you want advanced guest processing today, you should use the agents.
Yes it is on our future list to improve this. There is work both on our and NTNX's side in regards to this so I cannot predict schedule as it is not 100% in Veeam's control

When backing up using our AHV piece, you an still perform FLR of the database in question and manually import the database to the respective Veeam Explorer to restore data. Just keep in mind the database will be as consistent as AHV's guest tools allow it to be, and there won't be any log management.
