Are there plans to introduce SureBackup for Nutanix?
Would be glad to have that soon.

[MERGED] Roadmap - AHV Support in VeeamOne and SureBackup

Post by hcn3 » 1 person likes this post

To start, +1 for the ability to add Surebackup support for AHV customers. Now that Instant Recoveries are possible with the proper versions of Prism, I would hope that adding a Surebackup components for AHV clients would not be too far off.

Also, if there would be any plans to include AHV metrics/jobs in Enterprise Manager and VeeamOne it would be great as when we install those products in mostly Nutanix AHV environments, the data provided and usefulness of the products are very limited in my opinion. Enterprise Manager doesn't show any jobs or machines so really is only useful for recovering an encrypted configuration backup file. VeeamOne doesn't provide proxy or protected VM stats although it does have a separate AHV Protected VM report. The only useful information I see is the repository runway information. It would be nice if it could get and process VM oversized/undersized info, etc similar to VMware and Hyper-V platforms for those customers that do not license full versions of Prism Central.

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

Please use existing forum threads instead of opening a new thread to keep the forums readable. Please see the answer above. We count your request +1 👍

For VeeamONE: the goal of VeeamONE is to monitor / report on backups. There are no plans to extend hypervisor monitoring.

Best regards,
Hannes

+1 for SureBackup for AHV !!

You have Instance Recovery for AHV VMs to VMware - so it must to be a short way to implement cross-HV sure backup. this will just check the main pieces of a backup - but it will work....

Hi all.

To make it more clear, please also comment which scenario you are looking for:
a) "SureBackup for Nutanix AHV" meaning running virtual lab in AHV environment and executing SureBackup jobs in those labs
vs totally different
b) "SureBackup for Nutanix AHV" meaning support for existing virtual labs in VMware\Hyper-V to execute SureBackup jobs against backed up Nutanix AHV machines

Case A also has lots of questions underneath, where primary one is "...for AHV VMs only, or you want to run VMware\Hyper-V VMs verifications in those AHV labs too?"

/Thanks!

For me it's case a) for pure AHV installation (without support for Hyper-V or VMware)

I would start with just native AHV Surebsckup. For customers running pure Nutanix AHV they don't have other hypervisors to work with for testing.

Cross platform SureBackup would be awesome but I understand the challenges with that.

Yeah for now scenario A would be perfect.
Of course cross hypervisor would be top.

Hello guys,

Need some clarification: I was wondering what exact SureBackup options are you looking for Nutanix machines? Today we can verify that the machine is bootable in the lab and perform data verification / scan the content against antivirus on the mount host. Are you looking for both options for your job or you got any preferences (say, antivirus scan and data verification is more preferable than boot verification). Thank you for your feedback!

We are looking to be able to perform the same functions in Nutanix that we can with vCenter. Specifically for us it is to a build a lab with a set of virtual machines, restore to the lab, bring them online in a segregated network and perform testing. We use this feature extensively to test upgrades.

same as @Coldfirex said.
we need either 1 of below options or both.
option a) running virtual lab inside AHV environment + executing SureBackup jobs inside this lab for Nutanix VMs.
option b) add support for existing virtual labs in VMware\Hyper-V to execute SureBackup jobs against backed up Nutanix AHV VMs.
because in current SureBackup LAB, we can test AHV Nutanix VMs backup.

I guess the monthly poke. Don't suppose this is something that 'might' be coming in 12.1 next week?

I'd like to be able to test my AHV VM's in this manner.
