VAN 2.0 - New Version Info

Post by dmrichards26 »

Hello, Everyone -

I am very excited to see that Veeam Availability Suite for Nutanix AHV version 2.0 was released today.

I have briefly reviewed the release notes and overview, but I'm wondering if there is any documentation surrounding new features? I'm just looking for a brief summary of what has changed or been added from version 1.X, and also wondering if any videos are available showing the new 2.0?

Thanks!

What's new should be posted shortly. Quick Summary:

What’s New Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV
  • Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV is now part of Veeam® Backup & Replication™ v10. Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV is the successor to Veeam Availability for Nutanix AHV and provides integration for Veeam Backup & Replication extending next generation agentless backup and restore for Nutanix AHV.
Enhanced Integration with Veeam Backup & Replication 10
  • The Veeam Backup for Nutanix AHV package deployed on the VBR server contains two key components the AHV Plug-In for Veeam Backup & Replication along with the New Veeam Backup and Replication AHV proxy image. Thus, providing your Veeam Backup console fresh new capabilities for Centralized management of your AHV backups.
New Centralized Management
  • Deploy & upgrade Proxies When administrators register Nutanix AHV cluster(s) from within the VBR console, can automatically deploy a Veeam backup & replication AHV backup proxy or upgrade existing Veeam Availability for Nutanix V1 proxy.
  • Job management and status VBR Console integration allows for viewing job status, start/stop/disable jobs, and ability to launch the proxy Web UI.
  • License Management is solely performed by the VBR server, with no additional license required for the proxy appliance. AHV backups now use the Veeam Universal License.
  • VeeamZip Support now offered from the VBR Console just select the VM you want under inventory right click and Veeam Zip to get an AD hoc full backup on the fly.
Restore improvements
  • AHV FLR Appliance now allows for live file level recovery and native Linux FLR support directly back to your AHV workloads.
  • Entire VM restore using Veeam’s universal VBK backup file format allows users to restore any Virtual, Physical and Cloud workloads protected by Veeam to AHV clusters. This is also bidirectional with the ability to restore AHV backups to other Hypervisors.
  • AHV snapshots restores complete File and disk-level restore directly from Native AHV snapshots.
  • Instant VM Recovery offers extra speed and mobility when challenged with a critical recovery scenario in a hybrid environment allowing you to instantly spin up multiple VMs from your Nutanix AHV backups to VMware vSphere.

Enterprise Manager Integration allows for FLR operations from the EM console, and allows the FLR helper to run on the AHV cluster

VeeamOne Support provides Protected VM reports on AHV backups to help gain peace of mind and ensure no workload goes unprotected.

Next generation AHV backup Proxy
New Features in VBR AHV backup proxy:
  • Job options to create backup and snapshot only jobs based on protection domains that help easily organize and optimize your backups with the added ability to now schedule periodic active fulls.
  • Backup job targets made easy with the unification of the Veeam backup repository code. Allows users to target deduplicating storage appliances and file systems with block cloning technology.
  • Global email notifications configurable to notify you on a job success, warning, failure, or even the option to suppress notifications until the last Job retry.

Hey Eric -

Great. Thanks for the fast and thorough reply.

Just to confirm. A direct migration path from V 1.X to 2.0 will be available?

Thanks,

DJ

Awesome release. Looks very promising, specially the possibility to migrate VMs from other Hypervisors to AHV and back.

Definitely worth a try.

I am little bit confused, if I still need a Universal license or if VBR 10 Community Edition combined with VAN 2.0 can be used to protect 10 Nutanix VMs without a license?

Any clarification?
