Veeam Backup for AHV and Nutanix Files
We have currently implemented Veeam Back for AHV for VM backups. We will be going to use Nutanix Files for SMB shares.
I'm curious if there are people who use Veeam Backup in combination with Nutanix files and what their experiences are with this.
Regards,
Ted

Do you mean using Nutanix Files for the Veeam backup repository? If so we'd generally recommend the backup data reside outside the Nutanix cluster.

Re: Veeam Backup for AHV and Nutanix Files
Hi Ronn, no sorry, what I mean is backing up the Nutanix Files SMB shares with Veeam. If i understand correctly, Veeam does not support the Nutanix Files CFT (Changed File Tracking) API. So I am interested in the overall experience of using Veeam to backup Nutanix Files SMB shares and experiences of throughput.

That's good! I can't comment on real-world throughput as I've only tested Files SMB backup in lab environments. Stay tuned on native Files CFT integration. In the interim feel free to check out - https://github.com/VeeamHub/powershell/ ... ixFilesSMB if you're interested in backing up from Files snapshots. Note this is NOT formally supported by Veeam

As always "it's ready when it's ready" however at the recent VeeamON update we gave an end of January 2023 estimate for VBR v12 and the AHV integration is planned to be roughly concurrent with v12. Hope that helps

Do I need VBR for AHV to make this script works?
Thanks!

Re: Veeam Backup for AHV and Nutanix Files
You do not need this script. With v12 we added the Nutanix Files backup support natively.
But yes, the script was used in combination with Veeam Backup & Replicaiton.

Re: Veeam Backup for AHV and Nutanix Files
No Behalf of a customer who want to switch from "Native - Files share" backup of files shares from a Nutanix filer to the "Nutanix Files backup natively". There is a real nice Write-up in Veeam help center - VBR v12: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
