Azure: Transfer data from a non immutable Storage account -> Immutable Storage account

Hi,

We have multiple remote sites which all have their own SOBR configured (Performance, Capacity and as last Archive tier on Azure blob).
In the Capacity and Archive tier we have already a lot of data but the Storage account is a non-immutable one. We created a new Storage account on Azure with the Immutable options enabled.

Is there/what is the best way to migrate the data from the non-immutable storage account --> Immutable storage account without needing to upload everything from scratch again? In the most remote sites our upload speed is pretty slow and it would take us a lot of time and effort if we need to upload everything again.

I found this link which is talking about 3th party tools, but can someone give me an example of such a 3th party tool?

Do we get the same result when we migrate the data from a non immutable storage account to an immutable storage account like we should start from scratch again? Or are there any downsides with this approach?

Hello Argon

No, it is not possible. Immutability must be controlled by Veeam. If you use third party tools, Veeam won't be in control or aware when storing the backups. That could lead to unforeseen issues.

Capacity tier:
The only supported way is to download the data and upload it again. The link you have posted mentions that:

You can copy cloud data only to a bucket without the Versioning feature enabled. If you need to migrate your data from a mutable bucket to an immutable bucket, perform the steps described in the migrating data between different cloud providers scenario.

Which is downloading the data and uploading it again.

Archive tier:
Data cannot be migrated.

Thanks for the answer.
So in other words, we could download the whole Capacity Storage account in our site with the fastest download speed, and upload it from that site again to the immutable Storage account. That's correct?
In that case we don't have to upload all the data again from the slower sites because we can execute the transfer from our main site with a higher down/upload speed.

For Archive tier, there isn't such solution?

Hi Argon

The download will happen to the performance tier extends.
If you're performance tier extends are on that site, then yes.
Also please note, downloading backup files to the performance tier is not a FastClone aware process.
Backup files will be stored in their entire size.

Unfortunately that migration scenario won't work for the Archive Tier.

If you value those archived restore points, you might want to export them first locally. Exported restore points will be uploaded to new Capacity and Archive Tiers, once you set them up. Thanks!

Are you saying that if there's a backup stored in Capacity Tier/Archive Tier(Imported) you can export it to a Linux Hardened Repository that is a part of SOBR and that backups object will be uploaded to the new capacity tier?
