VSE 0.11 - Object storage estimations
Hello Veeam Team,
A new calculator has been released (https://calculator.veeam.com/vse/ ) and result outputs are very different from the old one ( https://calculator.veeam.com/vbr/ ).
I have some questions
Object Immutability
When immutability is enabled on a repository, it increase Repository capacity & add new “Immutable transactions”.
Can you explain why we use more storage and transactions?
Is there any official document / presentation who describe this?
Do we need to take in consideration only Immutable transactions or Transactions + Immutable Transactions in Reposity Requirements pane?
SOBR With Archive Tier
When configuring SOBR with Archive Tier on S3 Glacier, Object storage Requirements result pane estimate standard S3 requests and S3 Glacier Requests.
On a sizing I have 1013 millions of standard S3 Requests & 0,32 millions of Glacier S3 requests. It’s a big difference between both, is s3 Glacier requests estimation safe and close to real usage?
Can you also confirm 1013 Millions of requests are requests peer year?
Thanks so much for your help

Hello,
immutability on object storage always requires more space. It's "how it works". I'm working on to get a "human understandable documentation", but it will take some time.
the transaction topic is covered in the FAQ and in the user guide there is a bit more in the "block generation" section.
Archive tier uses much larger objects. Otherwise API costs would be very expensive. That's why there are less API calls for Glacier.
Best regards,
Hannes

Hello,
helpcenter.veeam.com is the user guide. There are three different sections about "Block generation" for different scenarios. The concept is similar everywhere with minor differences between "direct to object" and "capacity tier"
