AWS S3 Storage Setup

Hi all,

I would like to use the new Veeam 10 Immutability function (with AWS S3), but I have never used AWS and the setup/configuration of an S3 Bucket. Are there any guidelines or whitepaper which would help me or do I first have to learn AWS S3 before I can use AWS S3 as a Target?

So far I did the AWS registration and found where to create the bucket, but I didn't understand how the storage class works. My preference is a "S3 One Zone - Infrequent Access" bucket, but I am not sure if I have to configure it inside AWS or is it enough to create an empty general AWS bucket and the Veeam checkboxes "Use infrequent access storage (ma result in higher costs)" and "Store backups in a single zone only (even ....)" do the rest?

@dalbertson Thanks for the link, that helps already a lot.

One thing I would like to understand (see image) on the checkbox "Use infrequent access storage (may result in higher costs)". What S3 storage class is used if I don't check that box? S3 Glacier?
I'm asking this because of the (may result in higher costs) wording.

If that’s unchecked it uses standard S3. S3-IA would be cheaper if you don’t restore from it. S3-IA is better for when you plan on keeping long term and don’t touch it.
