Azure Object Storage Copy

Post by mbroaders »

I have three queries that i would love clarity on with Veeam v11 and Azure Object Storage integration.

1. I believe copy mode can be configured to only copy the latest chain? Assuming it does is fair to say that for retention only the latest chain is available in Azure going forward or is this setting only applicable when the initial seeding is being done?

2. Is there any way to only have backup files copied for a single backup job rather than for the entire SOBR?

3. I have a client on Veeam v10 currently using Azure Object Storage for the capacity tier only moving backups older than 180 days. It is currently using Cold Object Storage. What would be the best way to migrate this client to using Archive storage with v11?

Hello,

1. Everything can be copied. The wizard asks what to copy https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
When selecting this option, you will be asked whether to copy all backup files that you might already have on any of the performance extents, or only those that have been created recently.
2. No, that's impossible today. The idea is simplification. One checkbox, done. :-) But you can have different SOBRs for different use-cases.

3. Configure archive storage https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110 and let the software figure out the rest

Best regards,
Hannes

Thanks Hannes that's very helpful. To be 100% sure though, when Latest is selected does this setting persist for future backups or is it just when seeding the initial backup chain. If i am sizing object storage do i just need to account for the latest chain rather than all backups? I would prefer if this was the case.

If you select Latest, only backup files that belong to the last active backup chain will be copied from each of the performance extents. If you select All, Veeam Backup & Replication will copy all backup files that belong to all backup chains located on any of the specified extents.
