Azure Storage Usage Skew Microsoft vs Veeam
I have a Scale out backup repository setup and in Veeam it is telling me that 3.7TB is in use for the Blob storage. However in Azure Microsoft is saying 11TB is in use. Thats a pretty big difference. The storage account in question is not used for anything else and only the original Veeam jobs are running to it with no changes or orphans. I have a case open with MS but they have been less than helpful in determining what is causing the consumption. Has anyone run into this before where the usage numbers are so different?

Hi Chris
Have you enabled blob versioning for your storage account in Azure?
Thanks

Blob versioning is currently disabled however I believe it was previously enabled and then disabled a few weeks ago.

Re: Azure Storage Usage Skew Microsoft vs Veeam
Hi Chris
That could be the reason. Azure keeping older versions of all blobs. When Veeam deletes restore points after their retention, blobs will be deleted. They will removed from the veeam database, but still kept as old blob versions in Azure.
Our product currently doesn't support Blob versioning.

You can also ask our support to have a look at the logs. They will be able to confirm that the offload is working correctly in our product.
Thanks
Fabian

Please check in your Azure storage account if you have any old Blob versions stored.Currently, Veeam Backup & Replication does not support the Versioning feature for Microsoft Azure object storage. If you plan to use an account with blob versioning enabled, keep in mind this may result in extra costs for storing objects that have been removed by the retention policy.
