Backup job with GFS and copy mode

My retention requirements are as follows:
14 days local

Object storage:
5 weeks
12 months
7 years

I was wondering if it was required to enable periodic fulls in the backup job in order to retain the GFS retention, if I am using the copy mode with object storage. As in, can it use the copied restore points to create GFS retention in object storage?

Secondly, if it is required (and I have to use the move option as well), and my retention is 14 days, will Veeam be able to use already offloaded weekly/monthly to build out further GFS retention in object storage?

Backups are not synthesized in object storage but are copied/moved there from the performance tier, so you need to configure GFS settings in the corresponding job to achieve what you want.

To confirm, I would have to take periodic fulls and then enable to move them to object storage? If so, how would creating the monthly work, if that depends on a weekly that already has been offloaded to object storage? Likewise for yearly.

Anyone have any experience with backup job GFS and object storage offloads? I opened a support ticket with Veeam, but they didn't know the answer to the question and directed me to Veeam sales.

Hello, my concern is: does Veeam assign a GFS flag to an already offloaded GFS backup? If I am keeping 5 weekly backups, does it use the weekly and add the monthly flag (since I will be offloading GFS backups immediately)? Likewise, does it do the same to add a yearly flag to an already offloaded monthly? I can't find how the backup GFS policy works with GFS flagged backups offloaded to object storage in the documentation.

This is how backup server assigns multiple GFS tags to a restore point - the offload process does not bring any specifics to it. Thanks!
