Backup on prem VMs to S3 repository?

Post by glider777 »

Is this a valid srategy?

We are very low on space andwe simply cannot keep enough backups onsite.

1. Is having an S3 repository for on prem vm backups plausible?
2. If so should a backup copy job copy the onsite backups to s3 repository or is a different way preferable?

Hello and welcome to the community glider777.

It's not possible to use object storage repository (i.e. S3) as a target for primary jobs or backup copy jobs with v11, but you can configure Scale-Out repository with set S3 acting as Capacity Tier to offload the data from your primary repository to the object storage repository. Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, using S3 in your case makes sense and it’s exactly the use case our SOBR Capacity Tier is build for. It will, depending on your setting automatically move backup to s3. So you can have the most recent ones on premise and the older ones offloaded to S3.
No copy job is needed in that case as it is built in the SOBR settings.

Thanks
