Backup Repository VS Scale Out Repository

Post by xrowtenma »

Hey guys,

I've started to use an S3 based cloud backup provider, and have noticed in Veeam that I can add this in two places:

Backup Repository
Scale Out Repository

I have used both in the past for regular NAS backups, but not cloud.

I know that with the scale out repo, I can offload old copies, or mirror everything from local to the cloud. And backup repository looks like I would be able to create a new backup copy job to the cloud I'm guessing?

I could do with clarity on this, and the pro's and con's of both methods.

Thanks!

You cannot use object storage as individual backup repository. What confuses you might be the fact that before you can create a Capacity Tier (Scale-Out Backup Repository extension), you have to add your object storage system as a backup repository, but it doesn't mean that such repository can be used outside of Scale-Out Backup Repository. Thanks!
