Cannot delete immutable backups from wasabi

Post by brettyj »

Hi,

I've decided to reduce the amount of stuff I'm backing up to the cloud because of cost implications, so over a month ago I went in to my Object Storage Copy Jobs and disabled them, and made a note in my calendar when I was able to delete the immutable backups in wasabi. (Backups are set to be immutable for 30 days).

Came back about 5 weeks later, and while I can delete the vast majority of backups, there are some that won't delete and have new deleting dates of between 06/08 and 09/08 - which is a month away. Why can't I delete these backups, and will this date just constantly be pushed forward? I want to delete these backups for cost reasons, I really don't want to have to delete the entire bucket to do this, as i'll have to re-upload everything.

For context these are my settings:
Two copy jobs to run immediatedly - with a 30 day retention policy with "Keep weekly full backups" set to 4 weeks, and "Keep monthly full backups" set to 3 months. And as I said the storage is set to "Make recent backups immutable for" 30 days.

What am I missing?

Hello Brettjy

Welcome to the forum.
With Backup/Backup copy jobs directly to Object storage, GFS backups are immutable their entire retention time.
You configured a retention of 3 months for your monthly backups. Therefore they will be immutable for 3 months (+10 days block generation).

We have a statement in our help center: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... -retention
IMPORTANT
Consider the following:
If retention policy for backups with GFS flags, backups created by VeeamZIP jobs and exported backup files exceeds immutability settings, Veeam Backup & Replication applies immutability according to the retention that is defined for these types of backups. Immutability settings defined for an object storage repository are ignored.
Best,
