Confusing of Archive GFS backups older than N days

Post by Raytheon »

Hello everybody,

i've setup Azure archive tire testing lab recently and if i setup archive GFS older than 1 days and uncheck the Archive backups only if the remaining retention time is above minimal storage period , the backup was successful archived but also have copy on capacity tier.
not moved to archive ? only copied to?
or any misunderstand here?

testbackup jobs setting:
14days retention
keep 12monthly
synthetic full on Friday
and copy to object storage as soon as created

Hello,
sounds like everything is working fine.

The last month exists in capacity tier and archive tier, because the capacity tier backup chain has to continue somehow. If you check again in one month, you will have two months in archive tier where the oldest only exists in archive tier.

Best regards,
Hannes

Hello Hannes,

thanks for your swift answer, that mean every GFS backup going to archive tier will still have the last one GFS backup on capacity tier for weekly/monthly or yearly?

btw, some Stupid question want clear.
Q1: if set to 1 day go to archive the GFS backup, is it save the cost ?
Q2: if set to 1 day ,the GFS on capacity tier except last one backup will keep, is the second GFS will clean-up after archived?

Best regards,
Raytheon

Hello,

yes
Q1: for the following months, yes
Q2: yep - I recommend to have a look again in one month. you will see something like this in my lab (I have the minimal storage period checkbox enabled to prevent weekly backups ending up in archive tier)

capacity tier
